In connection with the release of their first EP, we did an interview with the Danish producer/DJ duo All We Do Is This.
Tell us a bit about yourself. Who are you, where are you from, what are you doing?
So basically we’re two guys, who share a deep passion for music. Jan Brandi grew up on the Island of Bornholm and Rasmus Vestervig grew up in the suburbs of Copenhagen, but actually we meet by chance at Stella Polaris in Odense 2012. Immediately we had a strong connection and keept in touch. We had both been producing music and DJ’ing in various constellations for many years, but when Rasmus got back from New York in the end of 2012, we decided to try to meet up in the studio. We meet up on a Saturday and almost had a finished track, “Hive”, when the session was over. The first impression had turned out to be true and we’ve been worked together ever since without looking back. We are releasing our first four track EP on our own label, AllWeDoIsThis Music, on the 26th of August and did a remix of Jacob Phono coming out in the fall of 2013. Also we’ve done two mixtapes during the spring of 2013, which have received a lot of attention. So as you can tell, we spend a lot of hours in the studio and playing gigs at clubs and festivals.
What is the idea behind your name ”All We Do Is This”?
Well we had to come up with a name at one point and was going through all kinds of fancy names. But then we looked at each other and said all we do is this, so why not just keep it simple and use that as our name. The name represents a form of simplicity for us and keeps us focused on the music at all times.
Favorite song of the moment?
That would surely be: Ten Walls – Gotham [Original Mix]
How would you describe your style of music?
It’s like a slow dub techno sound with very sparse arrangements and a solid bottom of bass. The stylistics of the tunes are very simple and serene in a way. For us the music is a clear and honest sentiment.
What is the inspirations for your EP?
Obviously we have a great love to what’s going on in Berlin right now and could make a list of producers/DJs, that could go on forever. So none mentioned, none forgotten, but if you check out our mixes, then you’ll get an idea.
Any guilty pleasures?
Sometimes we eat a little too many toasts in the studio and end up drinking beers at Fortunen just around the corner, hahaha.
Uh, that’s a hard one! Without sounding too modest then just been able to work and live from music is our dream gig. Every club, festival in a country has it’s own flavour and that’s a big quality to us.
What is the future plans for AWDIT?
We just signed a 2-year distributions contract with Para-Dise in Hamburg and plan to release as much music as possible to get our name out there. The second EP is already in the progress of being made. Also we hope to do a lot more gigs in venues filled with new faces all over the world in the near future.
