A Google image search for Iceland: Perfect and silky waterfalls, the greenest northern lights that cover the biggest starred sky, dramatic clouds, lakes of absurd colors, stunning mountains and valleys with rainbows, icebergs and hairy happy horses and whales.

Yes, it is a beautiful place. But I’ve been traveling to Iceland for almost ten years now and the things I see everyday are very far from all this. In winter, darkness comes to stay and snow covers everything. I prefer the beauty of smily cars and dirty hands and of all that black and white and brown and grey than the crazily photoshopped landscapes.
