“Saint Laurent’s Spring/Summer 2015 is Hedi Slimane’s attempt to revive psych rock. The result is a “folklore” style take on gypsy rock’n’roll. A cast consisting of models, girls and musicians from bands including Swim Deep, Skinnybones, White Room, Froth, The Invaders, Psychic Warden and Los Rips strolled down the runway to create a very authentic mood which made us want to go on a psychedelic trip under desert stars.
Yann Le Goec said on Facebook “From which vintage/recycled/used store Hedi Slimane get all the clothes for the Saint Laurent show?” and Tim Blanks thinks the show was “chilly and predictable”. It’s true that he didn’t introduce something new in his collection – but that wasn’t the point.
The criticism shifts towards the opinion that Hedi’s offering was “so mid 2000, when slimlook was trendy”. Right now most of the menswear designers shift into the same direction – avantgarde silhouettes and a much more feminine image of a man. Hedi is a rebel, he won’t follow the trends – he creates his own. Even though it wasn’t the collection everyone will talk about in the next few years, at least it was something different.”
